This article raises the question of the further integrated study of the olonkho language, the designation of its promising tasks and priority areas. With a rethinking of the previous tasks set by P. A. Sleptsov, V. M. Nikiforov, the author sets new tasks for the Yakut linguistic and folkloristic studies, taking into account the development of modern Yakut linguistics. By the method of modeling, which involves the study of works that to one degree or another concerned the problems of the Olonkho language, the method, generalization and systematization, also identified tasks of both fundamental and applied nature: 1) to create a national corpus of epic texts of the Yakut language, to use modern informational (computer) technologies, including artificial intelligence systems; 2) it is necessary to clarify the research vocabulary on the olonkho language; 3) to systematize the accumulated experience, knowledge and the provisions of the epic science, both Yakut and domestic and world in the field of studying the language of epic texts; to raise the comparative-historical and comparative-typological study of the olonkho language to a new level to assess the genesis of olonkho and the ethnogenesis of the Yakut people, to create a holistic idea of the linguistic phenomena of the Yakut epic; 4) to develop and expand the range of types of olonkho dictionaries – separate olonkho dictionaries for educational institutions (preschool, secondary school, university), olonkho thematic dictionaries (olonkho archaisms and historicisms, olonkho dictionary of figurative lexemes – an academic bilingual olonkho dictionary; 5) to expand the subject of studying poetics, stylistics and artistic features of the olonkho language; 6) to activate new directions of studying the olonkho language in the aspect of cognitive linguistics, cultural linguistics, psycholinguistics and other related disciplines. Also, within the framework of the article, a new interpretation of the semantics of the epic toponym Yutyugen ‘the underworld of the Lower World’ is made.
