Plot-thematic index of the epic Manas: meaning and content, structural features

Abstract

First of all Kyrgyz epic Manas is considered as a product of artistic creation according to the conditions of sovereignty which requires new comprehensive study in modernity. Activities related to the publications, researches, systematization, cataloging and translation of different versions of this epic into other languages are the important issues of the modern time. This article was prepared as a part of the project “Plot and thematic index of the epic Manas – I”, conducted at Kyrgyz-Turkish University Manas and National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. The article provides general information about the meaning of the index being created, the methodology for performing the work, the principles of choosing a topic and the features of creating the index. In the article detailed information about the purpose and the structure of data processing on the epic Manas has been given for the first time in Kyrgyzstan and its difference from other data has been identified. In the first stage of data processing of the epic Manas versions by Sagymbai Orozbakov, Moldobasan Musulmankulov, Bagysh Sazanov and Shapak Rysmendeev who came from Naryn oblast have been analyzed, topics to be included in the data have been chosen by comparing different texts of the epic and published in this article. The aim of the article is to present the data being processed to wide sections of the population and inform them that they could facilitate their investigations on the epic conducted in various trends of science by using these data. To make people more aware of the effectiveness of the data, especially those who study versions by manaschys (improvisers) comparing. To highlight the role of the data in presenting the key idea and theme of the epic, and to emphasize the essence and necessity of such data for the scientific community in boosting and facilitating versatile study of voluminous series of the different versions of the epic. During the research scientific works exploring theoretical and practical aspects of data processing have been analyzed, peculiarities of the data have been introduced. Four versions of the epic Manas recited by manaschys (improvisers) coming from Naryn oblast have been analyzed and key topics to be included in the ideological thematic data have been identified.
