The purpose of the journal is to highlight new results of scientific activities of the Russian and foreign scientific community in the field of modern epic studies and other genres of folklore; promoting the development of theoretical and applied research in the field of socio-humanistic knowledge; establishing and strengthening scientific connections between scientists from various regions of Russia and other countries in the field of folklore, linguistics and major aspects of the language of the epic.

The journal publishes papers on topical issues of modern folkloristics aimed at studying the epic of the peoples of the world in linguistic, historical, ethnographic, philosophical and cultural aspects.

From October 2021, the name of the journal was shortened and changed to “Epic Studies”. Certificate of registration of mass media with the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) El No. FS77-82075 dated October 5, 2021.

The journal is included in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), CyberLeninka, Google Scholar, DOAJ, MIAR, databases in the Ulrich's Directory and Scopus.
